Cannon VS Illithid
A downloadable awesome game for Windows
Don't you just hate it when a brain-eating know-it-all invades your hometown and turns your friends, family, neighbors and Fred into mindless puppets to be eaten next Tuesday? That cannon sure does.
Fight against the Illithid with the Cannon, now with state-of-the-art spinning capabilities, in this NES-inspired small puzzle game! Be aware of the Illithid's minions and your own capabilities. Every level has been professionally tested by a professional autist, who also happened to professionally make this game AND this description.
For those who are stumped, the following is a quick guide to some of the parts of the game. Be warned, it may contain (mild) spoilers for the later mechanics of the game.
CANNON
The Cannon is a wonderful invention developed in the early 1300s. This particular model makes sure to ALWAYS point toward the center, even if your enemy isn't there! (Even if the direction of the sprite says otherwise, oops!) Use the patented Spin-O-Matic to spin your way to the win! Other cool features are the Fireball, Electric ball, and Poisoned ball, each stored within crates. Each have unique abilities that you'll have to figure out for yourself.
ILLITHID
A Mind Flayer has chosen YOUR village to take over. A single cannonball will be enough to make him retreat, but don't be fooled; he will return swiftly with a new arrangement of walls and hypnotized minions to baffle you into giving up!
RAT
This rudimentary rodent has somehow grown to the size of a person. This would be an issue if the Illithid hadn't taken over its simple mind to make it stand still—an even simpler task. A single cannonball or even a small shock should be enough to knock it out.
MIMIC
The Mimic may look like a chest, but this clever disguise is broken when it's hit, and is completely destroyed after a second cannonball. It, unlike the Rat, doesn't need to be puppeted to be a sufficient meat shield. The Illithid is grateful for that, because the Mimic keeps thinking about something along the lines of a ball named David.
SLIME
These mindless cubes of semi-sentience would be really good defensive measures, if they weren't arranged so poorly. All attacks on it simply bounce off, so it can't take damage even if it wanted to. However, the Illithid (foolishly) arranged them to hit something, whether it be himself or not. Although it is tricky, it is ALWAYS possible.
???
To be honest, I don't know what this thing is. Some say it's a spirit of the checkerboard, brought to life to engage in mischief. Others say it's the flying severed head of a hydra, looking to exact revenge on who cut it off. I say it's one of those paper fortune-tellers. Whatever it may be, three things are for sure: it cannot be destroyed, elemental powers fly right through it, and it serves the Illithid—for now.
INTELLECT DEVOURER
This is the final creature you'll be up against, but don't think it'll be a walk in the park. This loyal pet to the Illithid can tank three hits before going down, and usually stands in a spot where it WILL take those hits and waste your ammo. Find some way to hit around it while still making progress against its master.
Do you have what it takes to defeat the Illithid? Open the game and find out!
Thank you for reading this guide and playing my game. This is only the second Game Jam I've participated in, and I feel pretty good about myself! I feel like the art, story and game mechanics come naturally, but the music and level design are the aspects that slow me down the most. That's probably on me for picking a game genre all about level design :P I think that despite these challenges, I was still able to make a pretty good game! Again, thank you for taking the time to see what I have made! See you later!
